Excerpt from All About Sharks: A Complete Guide to the World’s Most Misunderstood Predator (Nov. 2017):

Nearly every adult Greenland shark is blind.
Their lack of sight isn’t due to a disease, but from a parasite called Ommatokoita elongata that attaches itself to the cornea of the shark, rendering the animal blind.
Though they cannot see, the Greenland sharks are able to still navigate easily using all of the other senses that developed over the eons to help them live in the deep, dark, Arctic waters they call home.
